Charlotte Seither - Composer

At an initial stage, I wanted to free the three string instruments from the imaginary shadow of the string quartet and tried to find an independent mode of behaviour related exclusively to the trio setting. I decided to combine the three string instruments into a “total twelve-string instrument” so that each could avoid the discursivity associated with the string quartet (a “conversation among four reasonable people”) and instead clearly stand out in relation to an almost gamba-like blend of timbre. The result was a vacuum which I tried again and again to fracture. Finally, I redirected the vacuum toward the formal design, mirroring the harmonic relations along the temporal axis.
