ESSAY ON SHADOW AND TRUTH (CHAPTER I)

Essay on Shadow and Truth (Chapter I) is the first part of a larger piece for orchestra that is primarily rooted in the idea of sound. It is concerned with the merging of small particles into each other, creating a kind of alchemy in which the different colours of the orchestra come together, while other processes run concurrently. In this way, the form is determined by sounds: the different sounds striving for logical structure create the form of the piece. Synthesis and dissociation, sounds merging together and splitting off at the same time from different processes; these devices occur in the details of the piece as well as in the overall form.
